Chad – Travel Health Alert

by Wayne Ghesquiere on March 10, 2011

According to WHO, Chad’s Ministry of Health has reported more than 900 suspected cases of meningococcal meningitis (serogroup A) in the southern regions of Logone Occidental, Tandjile, and Guera so far this year. The epidemic threshold has been surpassed in 5 districts (Benoy, Kelo, Laokassi, Melfi, and Moundou). Vaccinations are recommended for travelers during the dry season (December through June), especially if prolonged contact with the local populace is anticipated, and for all children and health care workers throughout the year.
