Sweden: Tick-Borne Encephalitis

According to European health authorities, 204 cases of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), an increase over the average incidence, have been reported in the southern counties since January 2011. Counties reporting the highest incidence are Sodermanland, Stockholm, and Uppsala. TBE vaccine, available in Europe and Canada, is recommended for travelers involved in extensive outdoor activities in rural, wooded regions of risk areas and wooded suburban areas of Stockholm. Travelers to risk areas are advised to practice tick precautions.
